To see how bad they'd be. They were worse. Far, far worse. The former I figured would be bad, really really bad, but not to that extent. (Clue: I've only ever given five movies, including these two and "In the Name of the King" zero stars; the others were "Alex Rider" and "Domesetic Disturbance")
"Dragon Wars" wasn't good enough for the Sci-Fi Channel, let alone a theatrical release.

"Diving Bell"'s on my "rent it" list. Just one I missed out on last year.

I thought "The Astronaut Farmer" was really, really overcooked. And I couldn't believe Thornton's character.

Bridge to Terabithia was tragic, elegiac, and beautiful. Don't pay attention to the trailers.

"Pirates" was definitely stylish. I was disappointed in the second (mildly) so I was beyond happy with the third.

The Kingdom was gritty, powerful stuff. But the ending was a teensy repetitive and overlong. Still liked it, though.

I was no less than moved by "Reservation Road."

I thought that "Lars and the Real Girl" was sublime dramedy, and that "Hot Fuzz" was among the best comedies of recent years (same with "Shaun of the Dead"). Love the shootout at the end.

Definitely see "The Great Debaters." Conventional, but brilliantly played out.Joelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16564846610934480928noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5959865198216001110.post-17277673432002567662008-11-18T12:06:00.000-08:002008-11-18T12:06:00.000-08:00Because he's a cinemasochist, which is why we&...Because he's a cinemasochist, which is why we're best friends. <_<Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02055168684929021840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5959865198216001110.post-39183942089455538652008-11-18T07:46:00.000-08:002008-11-18T07:46:00.000-08:00And why the F did you see Bratz!?And why the F did you see Bratz!?Actionmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16513109522731313470noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5959865198216001110.post-52356555998896058232008-11-18T07:45:00.000-08:002008-11-18T07:45:00.000-08:00Nice picks, Joel. Best film of 2007 for me, hands down.

I disagree with you, however, on The Astronaut Farmer. I was really taken with that flick. Sensitive performances from the entire cast and BEAUTIFUL cinematography. The plot is completely asinine but I thought it was a great family movie.

You liked Bridge to Terabithian, huh? ****?

Glad to see you enjoyed Pirates 3; what a stylish, surreal trip that movie was.

I also noticed you only gave The Kingdom only ***. I gave that one ****. I thought it was a killer action flick.

Reservation Road had some terrific performances (especially Ruffalo) but the contrived nature of the script made it a *** movie for me.

I like the Transformers love...

Never saw The Great Debaters...had an Academy screener for weeks and just never had enough interest...

I hated Lars and the Real Girl and thought Hot Fuzz was a wee-bit overrated.

Overall, damn solid list. Jesse James was utterly brilliant.Actionmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16513109522731313470noreply@blogger.com
